CTY’s academic year starts on August 15 and ends on August 14. When filling out our Join form, use your child’s current grade. If your child has just finished the school year, continue using the grade they entered the previous fall until August 14. Starting August 15, use the grade your child will enter the upcoming fall.
Automatic grade advancement
CTY’s system is configured to automatically advance students by one grade level on August 15 each year. This transition corresponds with the start of CTY’s new academic year.
For example, if a student joins CTY as a 4th grader on May 1, 2026, then, on August 15, 2026, the system will automatically update their grade to 5th grade.
Requesting an update to your child’s grade
If your child skips a grade or another update is needed, email ctyinfo@jhu.edu to request the update. Your request should include the student’s full name, CTY account email, and documentation that includes the student’s correct grade level.
