COVID-19 Policies and Procedures

Prevention

It is strongly recommended, but not required, that CTY staff and students be up to date on COVID-19 vaccination.

Response

CTY aligns its response to cases of COVID-19 with the U.S. CDC guidelines, Preventing Spread of Respiratory Viruses When You're Sick and to any host site requirements.

Per CDC guidelines, if students or staff test positive for COVID-19, CTY requires:

  1. Isolation until, for at least 24 hours, both are true:
    • Symptoms are getting better overall, and
    • The person has not had a fever (and is not using fever-reducing medication).
  2. The person to wear a mask for five days after returning to normal activities, except when eating, bathing, or sleeping.

Students who leave isolation return to living in their assigned rooms with their roommate(s).

Site-Specific Requirements

In summer 2024, only one CTY host site, Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles, Calif., required additional steps for people testing positive for COVID-19. View the current Loyola Marymount University COVID-19 protocols. These are subject to change between now and the start of the 2025 CTY program.

Notification

If a student tests positive for COVID-19, CTY will notify the student’s family. There will be no other notifications.
