Lab 1: Investigating Rust on a Screw

  • 1 tablespoon measuring spoon
  • 1/2 cup measuring cup
  • pen
  • sticky notes for labeling
  • 4 small containers (suggestion: small cups or snack bowls)
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/2 cup soda
  • 1/2 cup salt water (4 tablespoons salt)
  • 4 nails or screws (avoid stainless steel)

Lab 2: Investigating Cause and Effect with Data

  • This lab allows you to choose one of three options. The required materials will depend upon which lab you choose.


Lab 3: Design and Conduct a Temperature Investigation

  • You will design this investigation yourself. The lab includes suggested materials. The required materials will depend on your procedure.

  • Color pencils/pens to draw molecules
  • Assortment of gumdrops with four distinct colors
  • Toothpicks
  • Two identical toy cars
  • A ramp
  • A box
  • Ruler, tape measure, or meter stick
  • Everyday household items and craft supplies
  • Paper or Plastic Disposable Cup
  • 127 cm (50 inches) of clear sticky tape
  • 1 compass
  • 1 bar magnet (must be strong enough to move the compass)
  • 2 pieces of white paper
  • Colored Construction Paper
  • Masking Tape
  • Flashlight
