Families often ask us, “Do students in CTY summer programs ever have time for fun?”
The answer is a big YES! Students often say their favorite part of the On-Campus Summer Programs experience is getting the chance to meet other bright kids, make new friends, and have fun in and out of the classroom. That’s because our summer staff are experts at designing and leading creative, lively activities that reflect CTY students’ diverse interests and allow them to connect with each other.
From engaging, hands-on classroom lessons to energizing “brain breaks” scheduled throughout each day, kids at CTY get lots of opportunities to relax, play outside, and be kids:
- Students at our commuter sites participate in their choice of supervised activities during recess and other scheduled daily activity breaks, including:
- Arts and crafts
- Sports
- Foursquare
- Kickball
- Board games
- Students at our residential sites spend afternoons and weekends participating in a variety of supervised activities that help them establish a sense of community and form lifelong bonds, including:
- Arts and crafts
- Sports
- Ultimate frisbee
- Dance challenges
- Board games
- More unusual activities like banana penguin, orange ninjas, or “hiding in plain sight.”
- Movie nights
- Talent shows
- Carnivals
- Weekends also include time when students can rest, do laundry, bond with others on their residence hall, and/or attend religious services.
We will have a wide variety of activities at our sites to help ensure that every student feels relaxed, engaged, and socially connected this summer, while also keeping them safe and healthy. If mask requirements are in place at a site, students will still have fun, and have opportunities to safely remove their masks while participating in socially distanced outdoor activities.
