The synchronous element of the CTY online courses refers to live class time via an online meeting platform, such as Zoom or Microsoft Teams. All synchronous meeting times are listed in Eastern time. The entire class cohort meets at the same time for live interaction with their instructor and classmates.
Courses that are asynchronous are self-paced classes in which students complete work independently. While there is no scheduled class time, students are still able to contact and meet with their instructor when they need to do so.
To find out if a class you are interested in is synchronous or asynchronous, please review that course’s description in our catalog. Just below the Enroll button there is a tab called Preparing for Class. If you click that tab, you will see information about the expected weekly time commitment, which will include whether or not there is a scheduled weekly class session when the instructor meets with the entire class.
