After joining CTY, students take one of our designated above-grade-level tests to establish eligibility for CTY courses.
Students can gain eligibility for CTY programs by achieving a qualifying score on the School and College Ability Test, (SCAT) STB, ACT, SAT, or PSAT. Note that the PSAT 8/9 cannot be considered for CTY eligibility for students in grades 8+. Learn more about testing options.
Families hoping to receive test results in time to establish eligibility for a specific course should note that it can take up to several weeks to receive results for certain tests. The courses available to a student will depend upon their grade and test scores.
The School and College Ability Test, available at Prometric testing centers or online, is a good option for families looking to qualify for CTY courses on a deadline. Scores from tests taken at Prometric test centers are typically reported within three days after testing. Scores from SCAT tests taken online at home are typically available within 7 – 10 days after testing, typically sooner.
