Online problem-based courses are 13 weeks long (though they do not meet Thanksgiving week) and meet once per week for two hours each time. Students have one hour of synchronous meetings with the instructor on Wednesdays or Saturdays, immediately followed by a one-hour session of student-led, synchronous group work with their small student group. The instructor is online with the students to facilitate in these small group meetings as needed. Additional student-led, synchronous group work with their small student group will need to be scheduled by each student group. The students are responsible for scheduling those meetings. Additionally, students work outside the scheduled synchronous times on research or other activities that contribute to solving their group’s problem.
